Munson

Archival 16x20 inch black-and-white fine art print on Epson Art Cotton Smooth 250 gram paper. NYC Village Halloween Parade street photography, Greenwich Village, 1982–86.

A costumed Steiff teddy bear named Munson sits perched on a windowsill at 59 West Tenth Street, quietly overseeing the vibrant chaos of the Village Halloween Parade below. The narrow streets of Greenwich Village teem with a massive crowd of revelers, their energy radiating upward into the room. Shot on Kodak Tri-X film with a 35mm Pentax, the image uses the natural ambient light of the apartment contrasted with the bright glow of the celebration below — preserving a uniquely personal view of this historic New York City tradition.
